Upmarket household furniture, collectables and jewellery on offer in insolvency auction

A selection of upmarket household furniture, artworks, Persian rugs, collectables, crystal, silver and porcelain, as well as an extensive jewellery collection will go under the Michael James Organisation’s hammer, as instructed by the trustees in the matter of Insolvent Estate A B Smit, and the executors of various deceased estates.

On offer will be Blackwood, European Pine, Teak, Mahogany, Imbuia and other solid wood furniture, says the auction house’s Samantha James. “The selection of furniture will range from dining and lounge suites, wingback armchairs and leather chesterfield sofas to servers and sideboards. A Victorian Burr Walnut vanity travelling box, an Ernst Kaps Dresdon Burr Walnut grand piano, more than 25 Persian rugs, over 60 framed artworks, framed mirrors and a brass chiming lantern clock will be among other items available.

In addition, the auction will include an LG Premium EZ Digital double door metallic fridge/freezer combination with water and ice dispenser, and other good quality appliances. Bidders will also be able to purchase flat-screen and other televisions; component systems; video and other cameras; and good quality camping equipment.

Among the collectables will be a port, wine and spirit collection; Stuart and other crystal; porcelain, sterling and other silverware; pewterware and brassware; as well as decor items, she adds.

“The jewellery collection will include a handmade diamond and cubic zirconia ring, which features a 1.2ct round diamond and 17 diamond chips in an 18-carat gold and white gold setting; a white-gold handmade diamond and zirconia ring with 12 round-cut diamonds and eight baguette-cut diamonds; a pair of diamond earrings; and a Tag Heuer Formula One black ceramic woman’s watch with 60 diamonds,” James adds. “Other items in this collection will include various watches, necklaces, bracelets, rings and earrings.”

The auction will be held at 10am on Tuesday, 1 July, at the Michael James Organisation showrooms at 63 Victoria Street, Somerset West. The items may be viewed between 9am and 4pm on Monday, 30 June.

The terms and conditions of the auction include a R3 000 refundable deposit payable upon registration, with the balance to be paid after the auction by bank guaranteed cheque, credit card or EFT only.
